According to the Declaration of Independence, the foundation or preamble to our Constitution, it says we declared our independence from England because under the “natural laws of God” we can be separate but equal.
Maybe the Supreme Court could revisit the issue and allow for national “civil unions.” Also, possibly under the Kentucky clerk’s religious doctrine, if the couple promised to abstain from sex, it might be OK. It is not a light issue for the clerk; she is a conscientious objector.
